WHAT IS HEADLESS MODE ON A DRONE?
Headless mode is a feature present on every Killerbee drone. Headless mode causes the drone to move in the direction indicated by the drone pilot without taking into account the orientation of the drone itself.
Dadurch lässt sich die Drohne viel leichter steuern.
Examples:
- The drone is pointing its nose in your direction. You now press the straighter stick backwards, your way. Normally, the drone would now fly away from you. Because you have activated headless mode, the drone now flies towards you.
- The drone points its nose to the left. You press the right stick to the right. Normally, the drone would now fly away from you, forward. With headless mode, the drone goes to the right.
So with headless mode, you no longer have to take into account the direction the drone is pointing. The movement you indicate with the right stick will be followed by the drone. However, it is important to calibrate the drone properly. See the manual for this. This involves standing behind the drone with the nose in the direction you are going to fly. During headless mode, you should not deviate from this. This is because the controller keeps taking this into account.
This can be explained by the technique used in headless mode. This one is quite simple. Normally, control is based on the orientation of the drone itself. Now it is determined by the compass in the controller. This indicates the direction the pilot is looking at, headless mode uses this information to determine which way the drone should fly following a command from the controller.
Headless mode is thus a useful feature for novice drone pilots who want to gain experience without having to worry about the drone's orientation. By using the transmitter's orientation to determine the drone's direction, headless mode makes piloting a drone much easier.
